Domino’s Pizza is the second largest pizza company in the United States. They follow only Pizza Hut when it comes to number of locations and sales figures. The company headquarters are in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Today, there are over 9.700 different Domino’s Pizza locations that can be found internationally. They have locations in 70 countries and every one of the US states.
Domino’s main competitors are Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, and Little Caesar’s.
The original location of the first Domino’s Pizza actually has an interesting story as to how it was bought. There was a small pizza shop in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Tom Monaghan and his brother, James, purchased this location in 1960. The original shop was called DomiNicks. The original purchase price was a down payment of just $75 and $900 to pay for the store. A few months later James made a horrible business move and traded his share of the business to his brother Tom for a used Volkswagen Beetle. Tom then renamed his restaurant Domino’s Pizza.
Within the first five years of business Domino’s pizza had their first franchised location open in Ypsilanti. The original logo of Domino’s Pizza was supposed to add a new dot for every new store, but that idea was thrown out the window when they saw the expansion possibilities of the company.
Domino’s Pizza has a menu that constantly adds new products, both as promotional items as well as new menu items that will stay permanently.
The original menu stuck with one pizza available only in two sizes. They have changed this significantly over the years starting in 1989 when they added the Domino’s deep dish aka pan pizza to the menu. Current pizza options include deep dish, hand tossed, crunchy think, and Brooklyn style. Most of the pizzas are available in small, medium, large, and extra large. Starting in 2012, Domino’s began serving gluten free pizza.
Then we have more advanced pizzas available at Domino’s. Artisan pizzas were added to the menu in 2011 which offer a variety of flavors including chicken and bacon carbonara, spinach & feta, Tuscani salami & roasted veggie, and Italian sausage & pepper trio.
Pizza is the main focus, obviously, but there are many other Italian-American style foods added to the menu. There are a variety of pastas available in bread bowls, sandwiches, breadsticks, boneless chicken (formely “kickers”), chicken wings, and desserts.
In 1973, Domino’s implemented a guarantee that customers would receive their pizzas within 30 minutes of ordering it. If the pizza was later than 30 minutes, it would be free to the customer. The guarantee was dropped to give just $3 off of the order to customers in the mid-80s.
They got rid of the guarantee in the US and most others states in the 1990s. Why did Domino’s get rid of the 30 minute guarantee? Well it wasn’t safe, and it got costly for Domino’s. In 1992 Domino’s was sued and had to pay out $2.8 million to a family of a woman that was killed by a Domino’s driver in Indiana. The following year, another Domino’s drive crashed into a woman’s car. The lawsuit awarded the woman $80 million, of which she accepted a $15 million payout. That year they dropped the 30 minutes or less campaign as the public began to perceive Domino’s drivers as reckless.
Domino’s does still have a 30 minute guarantee in Mexico, Australia, India and Singapore.

The wraps are super easy to make, are high in protein and are an affordable option to make at home. Kids love to eat them too!
The recipe below makes 4 servings
Rinse all of the lettuce leaves, whole. Shake off the water and set aside.
Cook the chicken in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring often while breaking up the meat.
Slowly add the onion, garlic, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, vinegar and chili sauce.
Continue to cook until the chicken has crumbled and browned.
Add water chestnuts and green onions.
Cook until onions begin to wilt, which should take about 2 minutes.
Stir in sesame oil.
When the meat mixture has cooked, remove it from heat. Spoon the mixture into the lettuce leaves and eat them like a taco.
